For me, the Poppy provides an eternal narrative: thriving in the poorest of soils, its life is brief but magnificently bold and positive.
The conflict that it simultaneously symbolises- Life and Death, Tragedy and great Hope, Destruction and Resurrection, the Ephemeral and the Infinite is my creative inspiration.
It is an on-going artistic exploration. My most recent "Poppies" are particularly poignant as I have incorporated earth gathered from Flanders Fields when we visited to commemorate the centenary of World War 1.
Earth is thrown/ scattered onto pure white Gloss paint and the work is gradually built up and completed with Acrylics, Indian ink and UV varnish. Black, White, Red : an explosion of life forces - Enjoy.
